Greenwood Cemetery, established in the 1880's, is more than just the final resting place of more than 40,000 residents. It is a landscape where the city’s history, struggles, and triumphs are written in stone. This presentation introduces Greenwood’s layered history, from its founding and expansion to its role as the burial site of mayors, civic leaders, educators, veterans, and everyday citizens whose lives tell the story of Central Florida. Our private guide, Sarah Boye has been scheduled as a LIFE speaker on February 17th. Sarah is a graduate researcher in public history at UCF and has worked extensively on community history projects in the area. Drawing on the Greenwood Cemetery digital walking tour as well as new research not yet published, Sarah will share memorable stories from Orlando pioneers and war heroes to colorful local characters and the city’s most talked about legends. Attendees will also learn how cemeteries like Greenwood serve as windows into the past, preserving community memories in ways that are both touching and surprising.

For LIFE at UCF members, this program offers a unique opportunity to explore Orlando’s heritage through the people and stories that shaped the city.

Please plan to arrive at 9:45 on Saturday, March 7th. Greenwood Cemetery is located at 1603 Greenwood Street, Orlando, 32801. Park in spaces near the office or along any of the sections. This is a walking tour and there is some mixed terrain including soft ground, grass and pavement with inclines.

The fee of $10.00 is inclusive of all fees and will be given as a donation. To receive a refund, you may cancel your reservation by February 28th. After that time you will only receive a refund if someone on the wait list is willing and able to take your place.
